You underestimate children mr Dawkins. All great philosophers and scientists from Greece, Rome and all over the managed to combine science and learning with whatever religion or mythology was being practiced at the time.

I’m a world without books pictures Tv films, I can think of no better way of learning about the world than listening to tales which spark the imagination and drive you to know more. Let’s face it. This method actually worked , it didn’t harm Newton, Aristotle Archimedes, Plato, Einstein, Darwin, Shakespeare. It opens up the imagination which creates infinite possibilities.

Western science is a scam as is global science. They do math not science. They can't even grow the beans they count. I'm offering actual science. I use math to build not explain.

This is what happens when you move away from Christianity to atheism and therefore relativism. There is no basis for logic or truth. I understand Dawkins has written a book where he claims he can create one, which will be a red letter day for philosopy and result in him getting a Nobel prize no doubt.

Let’s just say I’m not holding my breath….

It is a bit more complicated than that Richard. And I say that as a very scientifically minded person, who often defends science from magic thinkers. It is not Maori myths, but a matauranga Maori - aka Maori knowledge - that is being given some acknowledgment and respect.

Mythology/religious creation myths aren’t science, but they can be taught in science as a precursor to current theories. In fact I think that could be an interesting approach. How did we come up with “the elements” etc. it is really how you approach education. There is value in teaching holistically sometimes and specifically at others.

Science is “man’s” explanation for how the universe works. (that’s my definition)

Theories for how the universe, our solar system, the earth, its makeup, the forms it takes, “the things”, inanimate and animate exist, change over time and can be proved through experimentation. This experimentation is science.

Socrates believed sheep were grown on bushes, a quick check with a shepherd should have disproved his theory, his theory was flawed, but it is an interesting story in the history of science. Likewise believing that all things are made of earth, water, air and fire was an explanation for proto-elements. Feathers fall slowly because they are made of air and earth, Galileo theorised this was not so, that a feather and hammer would, in a vacuum fall at the same time. Proved absolutely on the moon! There is nothing wrong with explaining the universe with the information you have at hand. As you get more information your explanations should change. (Yes I have a problem with creationism as a scientific explanation, it does not hold up to experimentation.)

Yes, I have a family full of scientists and I studied history. I don’t think those disciplines are necessarily antithetical to each other.

What do you think counts as science, Marissa? How would you define it?

Lol Dawkins is running out of time quickly. The “Sky Father” is just beside whenever he finally gets his head off his arse.

Anyway the Big Bang theory is a much more ludicrous theory than creation. Same goes for evolution theory: which is so stupid it crumbles if you apply … wait for it … evolution. Lol.
